| Let's get this straight: Territory Housing has a responsibility towards
you and your children to provide safe and secure housing for you. Don't make any mistake about it. It is their responsibility.
And they have many other responsibilities. Territory
Housing has many customers who are not too clever about all the smart
government things of the world. Poor people. Old people. Young people.
Bush Indigenous people. All kinds of people who wouldn't know the
first thing about Government Regulations and Parliamentary Acts and
Mission Statements and Mandates and Core Business and the straight
up-front responsibilities of the Government Departments the have to
deal with.
Many such
people are used to being 'pushed around' and told what to do. They are
used to always being in the wrong, being told they've filled this form
out wrong, failed to fill that form out, not eligible for this reason
and for that reason... on and on and on..... Always some government
person behind a desk or a counter telling them what's going to happen
to them.
Many such people have the feeling that they've no power at all. No say whatsoever in anything at all. Well that's wrong. Territory Housing and its employees, paid by citizens taxes, work for you, for the citizens of the Northern Territory. You are their boss. They are not yours. They have stringent guidelines that dictate how they must work, what they must do and how they must do it, and what they are trying to achieve. They are set up for a purpose and they must meet that purpose. If they don't then they must be disposed of. The people sacked, the Department closed. |
